Plug plant savers to fill a garden with little cash and effort
I CAN'T resist a gardening bargain and when I saw a 24-hour Twitter offer for 36 herbaceous perennial plug plants for £1.99 plus postage from Thompson & Morgan, I couldn't help myself.
OK, so I have no permanent positions to put them at the moment, but that's never stopped me before.
There's six of each variety:
Verbena bonariensis
Coreopsis Golden Joy
Foxglove Dalmation Mixed
Sweet William
Salvia Blue Queen
Achillea millefolium Cassis (yarrow)
I potted them up in multipurpose compost in ever-handy yogurt pots and they'll spend the winter in the cold greenhouse to be hardened off and planted out in spring.
In a couple of weeks, they'd put on decent growth in such a mild autumn, with only two casualties to snails, who refuse to hibernate.
By spring, something will have died and I'll have a space to fill...
